How much money do you make per week? The salary difference between men over 25 years old and men 16~24 years old is $330. If men over 25 make $722 per week, how much do men between 16 and 24 make per week?

The answer:

Definitions:

x = weekly salary for men over 25 years old

y = weekly salary for men 16 to 24 years old

x – y = 330

x = 722

To solve for y (weekly salary for men 16 to 24 years old), substitute 722 for x in the first equation:

722 – y = 330

Add y to each side of the equation:

722 – y + y = 330 + y

722 + 0 = 330 + y

722 = 330 + y

Subtract 330 from each side of the equation:

722 – 330 = 330 – 330 + y

392 = 330 – 330 + y

392 = 0 + y

392 = y

The final answer is: the weekly salary for men 16 to 24 years old = $392
