Find the 35th term of the sequence in which a1 = -10 and the common difference is 4



Answer:


An arithmetic sequence has the form:

a_n = a_1 + (n - 1) * (d)


a_n = a with a subscript of n (this is the nth term in the series)

a_1 = a with a subscript of 1 (this is the 1st term in the series)

n = number of terms

d = difference between consecutive terms (the common difference)


Applying the notation to your problem

a_1 = -10

d (the common difference) = 4


The 35th term:

n = 35

a_n = a_1 + (n - 1) * (d)

a_35 = (-10) + (35 - 1) * (4)

a_35 = (-10) + (34) * (4)

a_35 = (-10) + 136

a_35 = 126
