= √(4²)

= ±4


1b. if 16 1/2 means 16 and ½

16 and ½ means 16 plus ½. The decimal equivalent of ½ is 0.5.

= 16.5


1c. if 16 1/2 means 161/2

161/2 is an improper fraction which means 161 divided by 2.

= 80.5


2. the square root of 100

The square root of 100 is the number, which, when multiplied by itself equals 100. 10 multiplied by 10 equals 100. Therefore, the square root of 100 is plus or minus 10.
