1 . Eight Times a number plus 7 is equal to 71. Find that number.

2. four less than twice a number is 28. Find that number.

3. A number is added to 10. Then 4 is subtracted from the sum. The result is 24. Find that number.

4. 7 more than 9 times a number is 106. Find that number.

Answer:

1 . Eight Times a number plus 7 is equal to 71. Find that number.

Eight Times: 8*

a number: x

plus 7: +7

equal to 71: = 71

8*x + 7 = 71

8*x + 7 - 7 = 71 - 7

8*x + 0 = 71 - 7

8*x = 71 - 7

8*x = 64

8*x/8 = 64/8

x*(8/8) = 64/8

x*(1) = 64/8

x = 64/8

x = 8

>>> the number is: x = 8

2. four less than twice a number is 28. Find that number.

four less: - 4

twice a number: 2*x

is 28: = 28

2*x - 4 = 28

2*x - 4 + 4 = 28 + 4

2*x + 0 = 28 + 4

2*x = 28 + 4

2*x = 32

2*x/2 = 32/2

x*(2/2) = 32/2

x*(1) = 32/2

x = 32/2

x = 16

>>> the number is: x = 16

3. A number is added to 10. Then 4 is subtracted from the sum. The result is 24. Find that number.

A number: x

is added to 10: + 10

4 is subtracted from the sum: - 4

result is 24: = 24

x + 10 - 4 = 24

x + 6 = 24

x + 6 - 6 = 24 - 6

x + 0 = 24 – 6

x = 24 - 6

x = 18

>>> the number is: x = 18

4. 7 more than 9 times a number is 106. Find that number.

7 more: + 7

9 times a number: 9*x

is 106: = 106

9*x + 7 = 106

9*x + 7 - 7 = 106 - 7

9*x + 0 = 106 - 7

9*x = 106 – 7

9*x = 99

9*x/9 = 99/9

x*(9/9) = 99/9

x*(1) = 99/9

x = 99/9

x = 11

>>> the number is: x = 11
