13- When jasmine runs on the treadmill, she burns 250 calories every 30 minutes.

At this rate, how many calories does she burn in 120 minutes?

(250 calories)/(30 minutes) = calories burned per minute

(calories burned per minute) * (total minutes) = total calories burned

(250 calories)/(30 minutes) = 8.33333 calories burned per minute

[(250 calories)/(30 minutes)] * (120 total minutes) = 1000 total calories burned

If jasmine has a goal of burning 500 calories. how many minutes would she have to run for?

(500 calories)/[(250 calories)/(30 minutes)] = 60 minutes

3- Kayshauna goes to bike shop where it costs her $24 to rent a bike for 3 hours. t this rate how much does it cost to rent a bike for 10 hours.

Dividing $24 by 3 hours will give the rental cost per hour. Multiplying the rental cost per hour by the 10 hours will give us the total cost to rent the bike for 10 hours.

[($24)/(3 hrs)]*(10 hrs)

= ($24/3)*(10)*(hrs/hrs)

Note that the (hrs/hrs) in this expression cancel one another, leaving the final answer in $

= ($24/3)*(10)*(1)

= ($8)*(10)

= $80 to rent the bike for 10 hours

4- complete the chart below.

3/2, 1.50, 150%

? ? 14%

14/100, 0.14, 14%

Reducing the fraction 14/100 to the lowest terms

7/50, 0.14, 14%

2/3 ? ?

2/3, 0.67, 67%

5- What number completes the proportion 10/15 = n/24

to solve for n, multiply each side of the equation by 24

10/15 = n/24

(10/15)*24 = (n/24)*24

(240/15) = (n/24)*24

(240/15) = n*(24/24)

(240/15) = n*(1)

(240/15) = n

16 = n

n = 16

10/15 = n/24

10/15 = 16/24

6- The ratio of pounds to ounces is 1 to 16. How many ounces does a 5-pound box weight?

The proportion is:

(16 ounces)/(1 pound) = (x ounces)/(5 pounds)

Multiply each side of the equation by 5 pounds to solve for x

(16 ounces)/(1 pound) = (x ounces)/(5 pounds)

(5 pounds)*[(16 ounces)/(1 pound)] = (5 pounds)*[(x ounces)/(5 pounds)]

(5 * 16 ounces)*[(pounds)/(pound)] = (x ounces)*[(5 pounds)/(5 pounds)]

(5 * 16 ounces)*1 = (x ounces)*1

80 ounces = x ounces

There are 80 ounces in 5 pounds

7- customer at Best Buy can buy 4 DVDs for $15. Write a ratio for DVD's to cost. Then, Find out how many DVDs you could buy at Best Buy with $45.

Ratio of DVD’s to cost:

4 DVD’s : $15 cost

Ratio = (4 DVD)/($15)

= 0.266667 DVD per $1

DVD’s you could buy at Best Buy with $45

= [(4 DVD)/($15)]*($45)

= 12 DVD’s can be purchased for $45

8- Mr. Halvorson drove from NYC to Buffalo at an average rate of 96 miles every 2 hour. At this rate, ho far did he drive after 3 hours?

(96 miles)/(2 hours) = rate per hour

(96 miles)/(2 hours) = 48 miles per hour

(48 miles per hour)*(3 hours) = 144 miles

Mr. Halvorson drove 144 miles every 3 hours

9- A hybrid car can travel 260 miles using only 5 gallons of gas. How many miles can the car travel using only 1 gallon of gas.

(260 miles)/(5 gal) = miles per gallon

(260 miles)/(5 gal) = 52 miles per gallon

The hybrid car can travel 52 miles on one gallon of gas.
