What is the answer to (7 + 19b) - 15. I’m having trouble with this one?

The answer:

Whenever you have an expression inside a parentheses, the parentheses is being multiplied by what is directly in front of the parentheses. Using your example, the complete expression could have looked something like this: 5(7 + 19b), or 150(7 + 19b), or (-11)(7 + 19b), or (1 + b)(7 + 19b).

However, there is nothing in front of your parentheses: no number, and no 2nd parentheses - nothing.

Since nothing is shown, there is a 1 directly in front of your parentheses.

(7 + 19b) – 15 = 1* (7 + 19b) – 15

Now you are ready to complete the problem.

Using the distributive law:

1* (7 + 19b) – 15 = 7 + 19b – 15

Group like terms:

7 + 19b – 15 = 7 – 15 + 19b

Combine like terms:

7 – 15 + 19b = -8 + 19b

The final answer is:

-8 + 19b

Thanks for writing.
