Order the group of quadratic functions from widest to narrowest graph.

Look at the absolute value of each of the coefficients

y = -9x²

the coefficient is -9, the absolute value is 9


y = 1/3x²

the coefficient is 1/3, the absolute value is 1/3


y = -1/2x²

the coefficient is -1/2, the absolute value is 1/2


The coefficient with the largest absolute value is the most narrow graph

The coefficient with the smallest absolute value is the widest graph


Look at the absolute value of each of the coefficients





ordering the functions from widest to most narrow


y = (⅓)x², widest

y = (-½)x²

y = -9x², most narrow
