How to make a single set A a proper subset of both B and C.












































I am wondering how you can make set A, be a proper subset of both B and C on a Venn Diagram. I can illustrate the part where A is a proper subset of B, but how do I make it so that A is also a proper subset of C? I believe my Venn Diagram is wrong.

The question:

The answer:

Your Venn Diagram shows the following relationship. A is a subset of C and C is a subset of B.

A ⊂ C ⊂ B

Or

A ⊊ C ⊊ B

If this is you intent, your diagram is fine just the way it is.

However, your written statement of the problem only identifies set A as a subset of C , and A as a subset of B.

The problem statement does not say whether C is a subset of B.

If set C (the whole set) is not a subset of B, your Venn Diagram must be redrawn.

In this case, set A will be the intersection (overlap) of set C and set B:

A = C ∩ B
