Equation of a Sphere

The question:

Z=+-square root of r1 squared- x Squared- y squared


The answer:

Z=+-square root of r1 squared- x Squared- y squared

Z=+-sqrt(r1^2 - x^2 - y^2)

I’m going to put this equation into a form I think you will recognize:

Z=+-sqrt(r1^2 - x^2 - y^2)

Square each side of the equation

(z)^2 = (+-sqrt(r1^2 - x^2 - y^2))^2

z^2 = r1^2 - x^2 - y^2

Add x^2 + y^2 to each side of the equation

z^2 + x^2 + y^2 = r1^2 - x^2 - y^2 + x^2 + y^2

x^2 + y^2 + Z^2 = r1^2 - x^2 + x^2 - y^2 + y^2

x^2 + y^2 + z^2 = r1^2 + 0 + 0

x^2 + y^2 + z^2 = r1^2

x squared + y squared + z squared = r1 squared

Do you recognize it now? It is the general equation for a sphere with a radius of r1.
