Question:

-75-m=25+4m

Answer:

Solving for m

-75 - m = 25 + 4m

Add m to each side of the equation

-75 - m + m = 25 + 4m + m

-75 + 0 = 25 + 4m + m

-75 = 25 + 4m + m

-75 = 25 + 5m

Subtract 25 from each side of the equation

-75 - 25 = 25 + 5m - 25

-100 = 25 + 5m - 25

-100 = 25 - 25 + 5m

-100 = 0 + 5m

-100 = 5m

Divide each side of the equation by 5

-100/5 = 5m/5

-100/5 = m*(5/5)

-100/5 = m*(1)

-100/5 = m

-20 = m

m = -20

the FINAL ANSWER is: m = -20

This answer can be verified by substituting -20 for the value of m in the original equation:

-75 - m = 25 + 4m

-75 - (-20) = 25 + 4*(-20)

-75 + 20 = 25 + (-80)

-75 + 20 = 25 - 80

-55 = -55, OK → m = -20 is a VALID solution
