literacy task set theory

The problem

write a story that contains word set, element, brackets, brace, unit, null,
subset, superset, universal, disjoint, complement, overlapping, equal.
The words must be in mathematical meaning in the story.

The solution

Start out by defining what each of the 13 words means

Because this posting must be limited to 3000 characters or less, there is not enough
space to discuss all 13 words. But this is the idea:

Definition of Set: A set is a group of distinct objects. Most people are familiar with a Venn diagram, which is a graphical illustration of a set.

For the purpose of this story, an example could be: My aunt bought a set of dishes manufactured by the XYZ Company.

Definition of Element: An Element of a set is a distinct object within a set.

For the purpose of this story, an example could be: One of the elements of the set of dishes is beautifully hand painted cup.

Definition of Brackets: Curly brackets, which are also called braces, are grouping symbols which are used to identify sets.

For the purpose of this story, an example could be: Curly brackets, which are also called braces, can be used to identify the entire set of dishes by listing all the individual dishes between the curly brackets as follows: {hand painted cup, dinner plate, saucer, butter plate}.

FINAL STORY (example)

My aunt bought a set of dishes manufactured by the XYZ Company.

One of the elements of the set of dishes is beautifully hand painted cup.

My aunt inventoried the entire set of dishes using Curly Brackets. Using Curly brackets, which are also called braces, my aunt identified the entire set of dishes by listing all the individual dishes between left and right curly brackets as follows: {hand painted cup, dinner plate, saucer, butter plate}.
