The inch number for the other mark is 6.

The whole number of inches for 1” to 9” can be determined as follows, without moving the ruler:

1” (already marked on the ancient ruler)
2” (already marked on the ancient ruler)
3” (the distance between 9 inches and 6 inches)
4” (the distance between 6 inches and 2 inches)
5” (the distance between 6 inches and 1 inch)
6” (the other mark)
7” (the distance between 9 inches and 2 inches)
8” (the distance between 9 inches and 1 inch)
9” (already marked on the ancient ruler)
