The company has a deal: for every 100 cards over 500 that she purchases, Ms. Weiner will get $2 off her total cost. How much will it cost Ms. Weiner to get 1,200 business cards?

Answer:

COST WITHOUT DISCOUNT ($10 for each 100 business cards purchased)

= (1200/100)*10

= $120

DISCOUNT ($2 discount for every 100 cards above 500 cards)

= 2*(1200 - 500)/100

= 2*(700)/100

= $14

TOTAL COST

Total Cost = COST WITHOUT DISCOUNT - DISCOUNT

Total Cost = $120 - $14

Total Cost = $106

The final answer is: $106 (about 8.8 cents per business card)
