Original Problem

I have 21 questions and I got 16 of the correct what percentage did I get correct

The approach

An easy and quick way to remember how to compute a percentage of correct test questions is this.

Step 1 – Write out the problem as follows:

16 correct answers out of 21 questions

Step 2 – Write the numbers as a fraction

16/21

Step 3 – divide the fraction to get a decimal. In this case, divide 16 by 21.

16/21 = 0.762

Step 4 – to convert the decimal to a percent, multiply your answer by 100 (just move the decimal 2 places to the right)

0.762 x 100 = 76.2 %

The final answer is 76.2%.

Note: The steps outlined above are a simply quick method of solving the following proportion, where P = %

P is to 100 as 16 is to 21

P/100 = 16/21

Step A – multiply each side of the equation by 100:

(P/100)x100 = (16/21 )x100

P = (16/21 )x100

Step B – multiply each side of the equation by 100:

P = (16/21 )x100

P = .762x100

P = 76.2%

Thanks for writing.
