Malik drew a rectangle with a width of 8 inches and a length of 24 inches. He plans to draw another rectangle that has dimensions reduced to 1/4 the size of the first. What will the perimeter of the new rectangle be?

Answer:

ORIGINAL RECTANGLE:

Width: 8 inches

Length: 24 inches

NEW (smaller) RECTANGLE: dimensions are ¼ the dimensions of the first rectangle

Width: ¼ * 8 inches = 2 inches

Length: ¼ * 24 inches = 6 inches

PERIMETER of New (smaller) Rectangle:

Perimeter of rectangle = 2*length + 2*width

Perimeter of rectangle = 2*2 inches + 2*6 inches

Perimeter of rectangle = 4 inches + 12 inches

Perimeter of rectangle = 16 inches

The final answer is: 16 inches
