Find the volume of petrol in the drum after 38 minutes.



The answer:

The shape of the drum is not important in this problem.

To find the volume of petrol in the drum after 38 minutes, substitute 38 for the x in the equation.

V=20 + 4x litres

x = 38

V=20 + 4*38 litres

When completing the calculation, make sure you follow the ODER of OPERATIONS: PEMDAS (parentheses, exponent, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction).

In this case the multiplication must be completed first, and the addition second.

V=20 + 152 litres

V=172 litres

The final answer is: 172 litres
