Question:

John had some stickers. He gave 3 stickers to Samy and bought another 4 stickers. If he had 10 stickers after this, how many stickers did he have at first?

Answer:

John had some stickers.

J = number of stickers John has.

x = number stickers John had, initially

Initially:

J = x

He gave 3 stickers to Samy

x - 3 = J

and bought another 4 stickers.

x - 3 + 4 = J

If he had 10 stickers after this, how many stickers did he have at first?

J = 10

x - 3 + 4 = J

x - 3 + 4 = 10

x + 1 = 10

x + 1 - 1 = 10 - 1

x + 0 = 9

x = 9

>>> the final answer is:

John initially had 9 stickers
