Answer:

Multiplication using the Partial Products Method:

           83 * 59 = ?

                83 = 80 + 3

                59 = 50 + 9

       Multiply the two parts of the number 83 by the two parts of the number 59:

                Multiply 80 x 50 = 4,000

                Multiply 80 x 9    =   720

                Multiply 3 x 50    =   150

                Multiply 3 x 9      =     27

                                               -------

                Add the results     = 4,897

           83 * 59 = 4,897

Traditional Multiplication:

83
x 59
-------
747
415
-------
4897

The first line of the multiplication = 747

9*3 = 27, 7 carry 2
9*8 = 72, 72 + 2 = 74

The first line of the multiplication = 747

The second line of the multiplication = 415

5*3 = 15, 5 carry 1
5*8 = 40, 40 + 1 = 41

The second line of the multiplication = 415
