Answer

Inpatient Census: the number of patients physically present in the healthcare facility at a particular point in time (usually 11:59 pm)

Daily Inpatient Census: a measure of the inpatient services provided by the hospital between Inpatient Census times.

(other names: Patient Day, Inpatient Day, Bed occupancy day, Census day, Inpatient Service Day)

= number of inpatients present at the census-taking time (the physical count of all patients present at 11:59 pm January 2) + number of patients who were both admitted and discharged between 11:59 pm January 1 (yesterday) and 11:59 pm January 2 (today)
