Your friend paid ten dollars to you for the first baseball card he received (from you), and $.25 for each additional card he received (from you). Write and evaluate the expression.

T = total amount paid to you

x = total number of baseball cards


T = .25(x-1) + 10

If your friend received 17 baseball cards from you, your friend paid:

T = .25(17-1) + 10

T = .25(16) + 10

T = 4 + 10

T = $14


If your friend received 29 baseball cards from you, your friend paid:

T = .25(29-1) + 10

T = .25(28) + 10

T = 7 + 10

T = $17
