some polyester sweater we wear made from plastic bottles,,,it takes 25 one litre bottles to make a sweater,,if there are 38 bottles to be recycled how many more are needed for 3 sweaters?

The answer:

To solve this problem, use a proportion

x = number of one litre bottles needed to make 3 sweaters

25 one litre bottles is to 1 sweater AS “x” one litre bottles is to 3 sweaters

25:1 AS x:3

25/1 = x/3

Or

x/3 = 25/1


Solve for x

3*(x/3) = 3*(25/1)

x *(3/3) = 3*(25/1)

x *(1) = 3*(25/1)

x = 3*(25/1)

x = 75

75 one litre bottles are needed to make 3 sweaters

Since you already have 38 one litre bottles

Number of additional bottles needed = 75 - 38

Number of additional bottles needed = 37
