Express Ratio in Simplest Form
by: Staff

Question:

express the ratio 12:64 in simplest form

Answer:

RATIOS are FRACTIONS which are used to represent proportions.

Ratios can be written in three different ways, but they are still FRACTIONS:

12:16, 12 to 16, or 12/16

Reducing the ratio 12:16 to its simplest form is equivalent to reducing the fraction 12/16 to its simplest form.

12/16

= (2 * 2 * 3) / (2 * 2 * 2 * 2)

= [ 3 / (2 * 2) ] * (2 / 2) * (2 / 2)

= [ 3 / (2 * 2) ] * (1) * (1)

= [ 3 / (2 * 2) ]

= [ 3 / (4) ]

= 3 / 4

The final answer is: The ratio 12:64 expressed in its simplest form = 3:4
