The question:

solve the following inequality and write your solution using set notation

5/9x > -3/4

The answer:

5/9x > -3/4

I presume you actually mean this:

(5/9)*x > -3/4

Multiply each side of the equation by 9/5

(9/5)*(5/9)*x > (9/5)*(-3/4)

(9/9)*(5/5)*x > (9/5)*(-3/4)

(1)*(1)*x > (9/5)*(-3/4)

x > (9/5)*(-3/4)

x > [9 * (-3)]/(5 * 4)

x > -27/20

{x| x > -27/20} or the interval (-27/20,∞)

The final answer is: {x| x > -27/20} or the interval (-27/20,∞)

Thanks for writing.
