Percent Increase Calculation
by: Staff

Hello Nicole,

To find the percent increase, or decrease:

1. Find the initial value (the starting point). In this case the initial value is $59,205.
2. Find the final value (the end point). In this case the final value is $60,245
3. Find the difference between the two numbers by subtracting the initial value (the starting point) from the final value (the end point). In your problem, this would be $60,245 - $59,205 = $1,040.
4. Now, convert the difference to a percent – not just any percent, but the percent based on the initial value (the starting point). In your problem, divide the difference ($1,040) by the initial value ($59,205), then multiply the result by 100.

($1,040/$59,205) x 100 = 1.76 % (rounded to the nearest on hundredth)
