Subtraction Equation

The question:

explain j-(8)=5 also did you use the rule of subtraction of signed number to get the answer

The answer:

j - (8) = 5

you could rewrite this equation in a couple of different ways

j - (+8) = (+5)

or

j - 8 = 5

it is not necessary to use a signed number, but it might be easier to understand

to arrive at the solution algebraically, ad (+8) to each side of the equation

j - (+8) = (+5)

j - (+8) + (+8) = (+5) + (+8)

j + 0 = (+5) + (+8)

j = +13

the final answer: j = +13

check the solution by substituting (+13) for j

j - (+8) = 5

(+13) - (+8) = 5

5 = 5

Since 5 does equal 5, the solution is correct

Thanks for writing.
